Cyprus beaches top Instagram’s European rankings

Idyllic island racks up five spots in Europe’s Most Instagrammed Beaches, with Ayia Napa’s Nissi Beach named among the social media platform’s top three

Beaches scattered around the rustic Cyprus coastline   have been recognised as some of the most photographed in Europe, with five of the idyllic Mediterranean island’s coastal spots achieving social media fame after being named in Europe’s Most Instagrammed Beaches.

With Nissi Beach in the south-eastern resort town of Ayia Napa ranked in Europe’s top three most photographed beaches on Instagram, Nissi’s neighbouring beaches of Konnos Bay and Makronissos Beach were also listed. Nearby Fig Tree Bay in Protaras and Paphos’ secluded Lara Bay rounded off the Cypriot listings.

Compiled by Globehunters.com – the one-stop online shop for travel-related bookings and services - the Cyprus-laden Instagram list underlines the universal appeal of the island’s coastline, and follows recent recognition by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) for Cyprus beaches’ provision of good quality waters, adequate environmental management, numerous health and rescue services, and accessibility for people with reduced mobility. In total, Cyprus boasts 57 Blue Flag beaches, making it the ideal island getaway within a three-four hour flight for GCC travellers.

Nissi Beach, Ayia Napa

Stretching 600m, Nissi Beach is the heartbeat of Ayia Napa’s famous coastline. Attracting large crowds, the golden sand bay features shallow and calm waters, attracting visitors with its beautiful coast, music, bars and beach parties. Numerous water sports providers, including a diving school, can be found alongside a variety of accommodations, restaurants and kiosks.

Fig Tree Bay, Protaras

Protaras Beach, otherwise known as Fig Tree Bay, has gained popularity over the years for its fine, golden sands and crystal-clear waters. It takes its name from a single, solitary fig tree dating back to the 17th century.

Konnos Bay, Ayia Napa

A little piece of island paradise, the 200-metre long beach is situated 4 km east of the popular resort of Ayia Napa and is one of the island’s most picturesque spots. Covered in fine golden sand, Konnos Bay provides calm and crystal clear seawaters, sheltered from heavy winds. Access to the beach takes you through pine trees and greenery, whilst the view from the top is truly breath-taking.

Makronissos Beach, Ayia Napa

The picturesque cluster of three-bays extends in different directions: west, southwest and southeast. The southwestern strip falls within a special protected area of the Natura 2000 network. The ancient archaeological site of Makronissos Tombs can be found in the area of the beach, or you can take an eastwardly stroll to the beach of Vathia Gonia, or westwards to the beach of Agia Thekla.

Lara Bay, Paphos

One of Cyprus’ most remote coastlines, Lara Bay is situated within the protected area of Akamas Peninsula and is a popular site for nesting green turtles. The wide-stretching horseshoe features soft golden sand, backed by natural forests, creating a small paradise flanked by crystal clear waters. Its remote location does require four-wheel drive and, with no facilities nearby, it’s the perfect secluded escape.
