HD Channels on the rise in the MENA region

 

By May 2016, the satellites covering the Arab World carried 212 HD channels up from 195 HD channels by March 2015. 

A new report from Arab Advisors Group overviews the High Definition TV channels landscape in the Arab world by May 2016. The report covers seven satellite operators that target the Arab World: Arabsat, Es’hailsat, Eutelsat, Gulfsat, Nilesat, Noorsat, and Yahlive, and the number of HD and 4K channels broadcast on each satellite platform. In the report, Arab Advisors Group provides a comparison between the satellites, and a projection of the number of HD and satellite TV channels serving the Arab World.

The number of HD channels constituted around 18% of the total number of satellite channels carried by the seven satellite platforms covering the region. 

A new report “High Definition TV in the Arab World 2016” was released to the Arab Advisors Group’s Media Strategic Research Service subscribers on June 23, 2016.The 22-page report, which has 9 detailed exhibits, provides a comprehensive analysis of the HD channels in the Arab world, their presence on satellites covering the region, and a description of the HDTV technology’s features.

“Arab Advisors research and analysis shows that the number of HD TV channels has grown by around 9% between March 2015 and May 2016” Ms. Noor Asmar, Arab Advisors' Senior Research Analyst wrote in the report. 

“By May 2016, Arabsat had the largest number of HD channels with 83 channels available on the platform. Nilesat followed.” Ms. Asmar added.
